My interest and passion in physical fitness began when I was in high school. Being scrawny and a ginger is a tough gig to pull off, so I started learning and studying every piece of strength & conditioning literature I could get my hands on. During an internship in college, I discovered CrossFit and was immediately hooked. I served as the strength & conditioning coach for the men’s wrestling team at my university and immediately pursued a coaching position with a start-up gym in Nashville, TN upon graduating. My career in fitness then sent me into the corporate Globo-Gym world where I learned the business side of fitness and relocated to Charlotte, NC. Combine my passion for fitness and the business knowledge I had acquired; and what you get is Urban MVMNT. We started off with less than 20 athletes in a park with nothing more than my pickup truck and handful of equipment. Now we are 200+ athletes strong and have a beautiful new 7,500 sqft facility. I am living the dream and loving every second of it. The members of my gym and my staff are my family and Urban MVMNT is my home.
Head Coach/Boss Lady
I grew up as a very dedicated softball and volleyball player, so all working out that I did had a very specific purpose: to get better at my sport. When I stopped competitively playing sports I no longer knew how to work out.
After many years of occasionally spending 45 minutes on an elliptical, I became overweight and unhappy with myself. I finally decided to go out on a limb and try out a local boot camp at a nearby park. After completing a workout full of burpees and wall-balls, I realized going to that camp was the best decision I had ever made. It all finally clicked. I understood how to work out again, and it added a competitive edge that I didn’t even realize I was missing since I stopped playing these sports. I saw my body begin to transform immediately and with that, my confidence. It’s pretty awesome to go through life and not question whether or not you have the ability to do something and I wanted to share that with as many
people as possible.
After coaching at Urban MVMNT for 5 years several of our members started to expand their families. To continue to provide the best coaching possible I took several certifications to learn more about pre&postnatal fitness and fell in love with it! I feel that during pregnancy and after are the most important times for a woman to be the healthiest version of herself as possible. I love helping women stay healthy through their pregnancy and provide guidance to them when they are ready to come back to fitness!
Growing up I spent most of my weekends playing baseball, football or at the beach surfing. During high school, I began to realize that the strength and conditioning work I was doing to prepare for the next baseball season had started to interest me more than the game itself. After my sophomore year in college I decided to hang up my baseball cleats for good, but I still continued to spend every bit of free time I had in the gym. (AKA- two hours at a globo gym doing bench press, bicep curls, and zero running). In 2012, I decided to give CrossFit a try after seeing it on TV and thinking it would be a fun way to continue to lift weights while tricking me into running more. I was instantly hooked. One year later I made the decision to turn my love for fitness into a career and began coaching. I can truly say that I love what I do. I couldn't be more excited to continue to share my knowledge and passion for fitness here at Urban MVMNT.
Coach / Endurance Guru
My interest in fitness started several years ago after a knee injury playing rec softball. A few sessions with a great physical therapist woke me up to the reality that I needed to take better care of my body. My typical workout to this point was 30 minutes on the treadmill and reps on a few random weight machines. Guidance from the internet got me on a better path on my own. While training for a GoRuck challenge, a friend recommended I check out Urban MVMNT. The coaching and atmosphere has taken my fitness to levels I never imagined. My current interests are running and obstacle race events, and Urban MVMNT has been hugely beneficial to my performance in multiple Spartans, Battlegfrogs, mud runs, half marathons, and Blue Ridge Relays. After eliminating knee pain through proper running technique and years of strength training, I want to share what I have learned about the benefits of proper strength & conditioning.
Coach / Boot Camp Chancellor
Throughout my childhood, I’ve always been very active and played sports. It wasn’t until High School football that I really got into fitness and eating healthy. Being 4 year varsity, I had high hopes to play College ball at Wisconsin until I injured both ankles the end of my senior year. Once I moved to Florida and attended UCF, I gradually lost my passion and motivation for fitness. Honestly, the typical ‘globo’ gym was not cutting it so I fell off the wagon and let myself go. It wasn’t until 6 years ago I was introduced to CrossFit by our very own Stu Brauer. CrossFit was nothing I’ve ever seen or experienced before. It was intense, challenging and addicting. It took me back to my football days and I instantly got hooked. After 16 months into it, my passion grew to coach so I obtained my Level I certification. I am truly honored to be part of Urban MVMNT and Charlotte’s Best Bootcamp where it all began and to help you all achieve your fitness goals.
Growing up my parents let me try every single sport known to man - well maybe not EVERY sport. Playing soccer was always my main focus and I played throughout high school and into my college years in sports leagues. I continued staying active during college, but not as much as I would have liked. After college, I found Urban MVMNT and I can't imagine myself being anywhere else.
As Stu began to grow the gym, I wanted to grow myself as an 'athlete.' I think being around like-minded individuals is good for your soul. I'm truly excited to walk into Urban MVMNT every day to better myself and those around me.
Physical Therapist / Coach
My passion for Physical Therapy stemmed from my fascination with anatomy/physiology, lifelong involvement in athletics and fitness, and a sincere desire to be a positive influence in people’s daily lives. I have experience treating a diverse client population, from high level athletes at Chicago's East Bank Athletic Club to those within the Neurosurgical ICU at CMC main.
Currently I work full time at CMC main where I evaluate and treat a spectrum of patients with neurological disorders and injuries, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury.
When I am not working at the hospital, I am housed at Urban MVMNT, working closely with Stuart, Sarah, and the coaching staff to assist with programming to ensure the safety of our athletes. I utilize neuromuscular re-education concepts and corrective exercise in order to optimize function, maximize performance, and prevent injury. You will find me working in a group setting, leading the new Stability & Mobility class, as well as individually with members for both rehab/injury prevention purposes. My goal is to keep you moving safely and efficiently so you can continue to crush workouts!
